Healthy and Tasty Gluten-Free Pizza (plus bacon) at Pizza Fusion

UPDATE – The Pizza Fusion in Atlanta has closed.

Have you heard of Pizza Fusion ?– even if you don’t eat gluten-free it’s worth a visit; it champions the lovely idea of fresh, healthy ingredients in the comforting, cheesy form of pizza.  Not only does Pizza Fusion promote organic and eco-friendly offerings, they also have gluten-free crust from Still Riding gluten-free bakery.

This was actually my first experience with Still Riding gluten-free crust.  I found it crispy and delicious, but the true test was my friend Matt’s  head to head comparison of the regular vs the gluten-free pizza.

Gluten Free Pizza Showdown

He’s thoughtful, pensively considering the two versions.  The verdict?  Both tasty in their own right.  “You’d never miss the gluten if you didn’t know,” he declared.

The really winner though was the gluten-free brownie.  Matt claimed it tasted just like a ‘passover brownie’ and as you can see, we made short work of it.

While I went to the Pizza Fusion in Atlanta, there are locations in CA, AZ, TX, KS, IL, PA, NJ, NC and FL

Pizza Fusion
Address: 2233 Peachtree Rd.
Suite M
Atlanta, GA 30309
Phone: 404-351-9334

Their lunch special was a steal – $10.99 for a drink, salad and personal pizza.  Now if they would just open one in NYC, I would be set.  Have you been to a Pizza Fusion yet?  What did you think?

I am so jealous! we don’t have a Pizza Fusion here in Ohio. Next time I go visit my sis in Atlanta, I am making her take me there! That meal looks heavenly!

Pizza Fusion is alright. Their crust tastes a little heavy on the corn but it is a good pie.

There are actually 2 other places in Atlanta that offer GF pizza:

1. Zpizza – a chain that I think is by far the best tasting pie – they get it nice and crispy and the toppings are cooked. Plus the have interesting combinations of flavors. It’s in Midtown off Spring Street near 7th.

2. Maddio’s – a hope-to-be-a-chain started by one of the founders of Moe’s Southwest Grill. They don’t advertise it but they have a good gluten free crust as well. They need to put it in the oven just a bit longer since the cheese doesn’t quite caramelize because the crust is baked from frozen. I would ask them for bubbly hot if you can. Great price and convenient for me in NE Atlanta / Decatur / Toco Hills.

For my money, nothing beats the GF pizza at Romeo’s on Greenwood in Seattle. Bar none the best GF menu I have ever seen. When you sit down they ask you if you want a gluten free or regular menu! It is pages and pages of stuff! Unbelievable! Cheese bread… must.have.cheese.bread.

Thanks for the info & review. I’m new to gf, and they are less than 10 miles from my home.

Thanks!

We go to Pizza Fusion here in Ft. Lauderdale–where it all started. I love the pizza there, but it is not the best pizza I ever had. There are so few GF choices here, that I am just glad to go somewhere where the food is not poisonous to me and I did not have to cook! They are a great company too, which I love.

Oh! One more thing! We ordered the crusts from “Still Riding Pizza” to make at home. They are better at Pizza Fusion–we think–and it took a bit to get them to cook just right on our pizza stone. They were good though.

The gluten-free pizza was unrealistically expensive, tasted gross, and I still got sick. Now, why would I return? But, I do have to give them props for trying. They did their best to use completely separate utensils in order to avoid cross contamination. Unfortunately, their best still wasn’t good enough.

There are about ten locations to have gf pizza in Atlanta now, which might be why Pizza Fusion here closed its doors this week in Atlanta.

*zpizza in Alpharetta now has gf sandwiches, pasta, chicken fingers, carrot cake, brownies, beer and of course, pizza.
*Pepperoni’s in Duluth gf pizza, chicken tenders, beer and pasta.
*Blue Moon Pizza has gf pizza, cheesy bread and pizza.
*5 Seasons in town and Alpharetta has gf onsite gf beer (did not care for it personally) and will offer fresh gf pizzas on Monday nights.

None of the many different gf crusts served here can touch pizzas from Risotteria’s or Mozzarelli’s in NYC. Fresh crust makes a difference (I have not gotten to try the new crust at 5 Seasons yet). Atlanta has nothing on NYC’s offerings for gf pizza.

I am devastated that Pizza Fusion Atlanta has closed. Took my 6 year old son there last night, made the 30 mile drive as we always do, only to find that it had closed since our last visit. My son loved the gfdf pizza, and my wife and I loved the gf pizza. We never had a problem with cross-contam, and it was always delicious. Hopefully another location will open again, perhaps Ashford-Dunwoody area, which is a heavily traveled area.
