I have Celiac disease and had a severe gluten reaction last week after eating one of Tu-Lu's paninis. I was shocked to find out that the bread they use for panini has been known to be contaminated with gluten for years, so contaminated that the bakery themselves (Sami's) don't even call it gluten-free anymore. Over the last few months, Tu-Lu's has had multiple posts on Yelp from people who got sick from their bread, yet they continued to carry it. They seem to not understand that it is not a matter of being "sensitive"; people with Celiac disease cannot eat ANY gluten.

I think it is completely irresponsibly for a bakery that advertises it's gluten-free facility to carry gluten containing bread. While I am glad that they have finally stopped making panini with this bread, carrying the bread for so long and causing illness in so many people with Celiac disease is inexcusable.

Celiac forum post with info on Sami's bread:

Tulu's (the name recently changed from Tullys) is awesome!! The paninis are fabulous and the bread does taste just like regular whole grain bread. The oatmeal cookies were my absolute favorite...so moist and delicious. I loved the pumpkin bread too.
The chocolate chip cookie had the familiar gluten-free cookie after-taste so I probably wouldn't buy that again and the corn bread was good but a little dry.
Also, I love that the prices are more reasonable than the average gluten-free bakeries and the staff is much more friendly than at Babycakes. Sometimes at Babycakes the people that work there act like they're serving gold.
I can't wait to go back and try more at Tulu's!

Best cupcakes ever...and I must say better than BabyCakes. You have to try the red velvet cup cakes and the paninis are super delicious as well.

Tullys was my favorite! It was so hard to leave... I wonder if I can get their wonderful goodies shipped to me in Houston? The chocolate chip cookies were my favorite.. Nothing like that place down in the South, for sure.
